Tire storage: keeping your summer tires safe through a Quebec winter

Before storage, wash the tires with water and mild soap to remove salt and brake dust, then let them dry completely. Do not apply a solvent based shine; a water based protectant is fine once the tire is clean.
Tires mounted on wheels are stacked flat or hung by the rim; loose tires stand upright and get a quarter turn each month. Either way, pick a dry, cool spot without direct sun and away from electric motors and furnaces, whose ozone cracks rubber.
Seasonal storage at the shop solves the space and transport problem: the tires are tagged, photographed and measured at drop off, then remounted at the next appointment. For a set of four tires, the service costs less than one month of a storage locker.
